The fees on an Etsy sale
Etsy charges $0.20 to create or renew a listing and a transaction fee of 6.5% on the item price plus the shipping and gift wrapping you charge. It does not charge the transaction fee on sales tax. Payment processing is a separate fee taken from the whole payment, made up of a percentage and a fixed amount that depend on the country of your bank account.
If an order comes from an Etsy Offsite Ad, a further 15% of the order is taken, or 12% once your shop has passed $10,000 in sales over the previous year. The Offsite Ads fee is capped at $100 per order.
Checking your processing rate
The payment processing fee is the one that varies. The calculator starts at 3% plus $0.25, which is the usual US rate, but you can change both numbers to match what Etsy shows for your shop under Etsy Payments. The rest of the fees are the same for every US seller.
Worked example
You sell a handmade item for $40 and charge $5 shipping. Materials cost $15 and you pay $5 to post it.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Buyer pays you (price + shipping) | $45.00 |
| Listing fee | −$0.20 |
| Transaction fee | −$2.93 |
| Payment processing | −$1.60 |
| Paid out after fees | $40.27 |
| Your costs (item, postage, other) | −$20.00 |
| Profit | $20.27 (45.1% margin) |
Total fees are $4.73, which is 10.5% of what the buyer pays.

Questions people ask
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
A typical sale loses 6.5% as the transaction fee, around 3% plus a fixed amount in payment processing, and the $0.20 listing fee. An order from an Offsite Ad costs another 12 or 15%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the price plus the shipping and gift wrapping you charge, and payment processing applies to the full payment.
What are Offsite Ads fees?
When a buyer clicks one of Etsy’s ads off the site and buys within the attribution window, you pay 15% of the order, or 12% once the shop has passed $10,000 in sales in the previous 365 days. The fee is capped at $100 per order.
Is the listing fee charged on every sale?
It is $0.20 when a listing is created and again each time it is renewed after four months. The calculator includes it in the sale so you see the full cost, and you can untick it to leave it out.
How current are these rates?
They were checked against Etsy’s fees policy on 13 October 2026, which Etsy last updated on 5 October 2026. Etsy does not print the US processing rate in that policy, so confirm it in your own shop settings.
